FARGO — The month of May is well on to its way of becoming the first warmer than average month since January. Although the weather late this week has been cool, it mostly feels cool because so much of May has been warmer than average. Already, Fargo has recorded five days in the 80s and Grand Forks has recorded three. This is average for the entire month of May.
The winter that recently passed was a long and cold one, with generally colder than average temperatures much of the time from November through April. The month of January was the only winter month to finish with an average daily mean temperature warmer than the average. So what should we expect of the summer? Global weather anomalies suggest to this old forecaster a somewhat likely trend toward temperatures somewhat warmer than average and rainfall somewhat lower than average.
