Q: I started receiving Social Security benefits last year. Will I get a statement of benefits received in 2013 for tax purposes? A: Yes, you will. People receiving Social Security benefits in 2013 will automatically receive form SSA-1099 or 1042S on or before Jan. 31, 2014. You do not need to request this. Have you changed your mailing address?

ST. PAUL -- Twin Cities performer and writer Naomi Ko emerged from shooting "Dear White People" with a Screen Actors Guild card, a new career direction, a scar on her lip and an "amazing experience" this week at the Sundance Film Festival. "Dear White People" was shot last summer in the Twin Cities, including locations on St. Paul's Summit Avenue and at the University of Minnesota. A satire about what it's like to be a person of color in a mostly white place, "Dear White People" is competing for prizes to be announced Sunday in Park City, Utah.
MOORHEAD -- In 1964, United Artists premiered a film in London promoting Beatlemania. "It's Been a Hard Day's Night," a title inspired by Beatle drummer Ringo Starr, became one of Time magazine's great 100 films of all time. It also played to packed crowds at the Fargo Theatre. Mary and Carol Helms, fourth- and fifth-graders at the time, stood in line to buy tickets to see the movie -- 14 times. "It really showed me the power of film," said Carol (Helms) Grimm, director of health and wellness at Minnesota State University Moorhead. "OMG.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Losing their best player to an ankle injury less than 15 seconds into Wednesday's game against rival Wisconsin could have been the Gophers' worst nightmare. Andre Hollins had been just short of a Badger killer in his career.
Dear Shirley, After my story about going viral was on CBS' "Sunday Morning," the Twitters and email messages came rolling in. I hope you watched the CBS show on your television in Tucson! Here's what some of my messages said: • I found your reviews of Olive Garden and Applebee's via Gothamist. I must confess that as a proud resident of NYC I would do anything to avoid setting foot in either one, but I thoroughly enjoyed your reviews of both. This is one of the reasons I love the Internet: It bubbles up talent that would otherwise be unknown.
GRAND FORKS -- Carrie Sandstrom and Bill Vasicek's columns on binge drinking highlight a problem in Grand Forks that should not be minimized ("Help students decide to have fun AND stay safe" and "High-risk drinking needs communitywide response," Page F1, Jan. 18). The stakes are very high. We are talking about the health -- and the lives -- of our children. At age 20, my daughter is a recovering alcoholic. She learned to binge drink in high school right here in Grand Forks.
(Reuters) - The University of Utah on Wednesday said it is providing free paternity testing to women who conceived children at two fertility clinics that employed a lab worker suspected of artificially inseminating a patient with his own sperm. Questions arose about practices at the now-defunct clinics when a woman artificially inseminated at Reproductive Medical Technologies Inc claimed that genetic testing showed that the late lab technician, Tom Lippert, rather than her husband, was the biological father of a daughter born in 1992, university officials said. The mother at the center of th
AUSTIN, Texas, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Convicted killer Edgar Tamayo, a Mexican national condemned for the 1994 slaying of a Houston police officer, was put to death by lethal injection in Texas on Wednesday over the objections of Mexico, which denounced his execution as a violation of international law.
