ASHLEY, N.D. - A Tuesday morning fire has closed a portion of the Ashley Medical Center in North Dakota. According to a Feb. 12 post on the McIntosh County Sheriff's Department Facebook Page, everybody at the hospital was safe. "Ashley Medical Center will be on diversion till further notice. No (emergency room) patients will be brought to Ashley. They will be diverted to Wishek," the post read. According to KQDJ radio in Valley City, the damage was not extensive, but an evacuation was needed because of smoke damage.
ABERDEEN, S.D. - Shopko is closing 39 stores in 14 states, including several in the four-state region. Liquidation sales are set to begin Friday, and the stores will close at the end of February, according to a variety of media reports. All of the closures are Shopko Hometown stores except the one in Nebraska, according to a list that has been published online.
ABERDEEN, S.D. — A Minnesota man has admitted to using a $300,000 bad check to buy more than 200 cattle. Jason Langerud, 39, of Hawley, Minn., pleaded guilty to felony theft by insufficient funds. The charge stems from December 2017 when Langerud wrote a bad check for $300,000 to purchase 205 head of cattle from a Brown County man.
ABERDEEN, S.D. -- An Aberdeen woman facing murder charges has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and asked for a jury trial. Tanisha Renee Jordan-Mondo, 38, was arrested Aug. 16 following a monthlong investigation into the death of Michelle Ladner, 37, who was found the evening of July 19 when police officers and emergency responders were called to a medical emergency at her apartment.
LEOLA, S.D. -- A 4-year-old girl and 2-year-old boy were killed Sunday afternoon, Oct. 28, in a two-vehicle crash 12 miles west of Leola, about 20 miles south of the border with North Dakota. Four other people were also injured in the crash — two of them with life-threatening injuries — according to a news release Sunday evening from Tony Mangan with the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The crash was reported around 2:13 p.m.
ABERDEEN, S.D. — A Northern State University student was found dead Wednesday morning, Oct. 17, in a residence hall on campus, according to a news release from the school. No foul play is suspected in the death of Curtis LeMair, according to the release. He is listed as a freshman from Shakopee, Minn., on the Northern wrestling roster.
