North Dakota has about 5,500 Guard and Reserve members and nearly 7,300 active duty service members, primarily at the Air Force bases in Minot and Grand Forks, according to the Department of Defense.
GOP lawmakers pitched an offer to revive the bonding bill, increase spending for long-term care and nursing homes, and eliminate the state's income tax on Social Security payments.
“We just want them to know that that bill is going to be dead on arrival because we believe that we need to see some tax cuts tied to that,” Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson told reporters Monday.
While House and Senate Republicans are in the minority in the state Legislature, their tax plan has some crossover with Gov. Tim Walz's budget proposals.
