VERMILLION, S.D. -- South Dakota rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to down North Dakota 86-81 on Sunday in a matchup of top teams from the Big Sky Conference and the Summit League.

UND won last season's Big Sky title while South Dakota captured the Summit League as both programs advanced to the NCAA tournament.

South Dakota, which won its seventh straight, improved to 9-2 while UND dropped to 8-4.

In last season's meeting between the two programs, UND rallied from a nine-point deficit to win 65-61 at The Betty.

UND's 20-7 first-half run left North Dakota leading 46-37 at the break. But the Coyotes responded with a 17-4 run during a four-minute stretch of the second half to gain control.

Raeshel Contreras led the Coyotes with a career-high 28 points. Her biggest basket came in the final minute after UND had closed to within 82-81.

UND was led by Makailah Dyer, who scored 23 points. Mia Loyd added 16 points while Megan Lauck and Emily Evers finished with 15 and 10, respectively. Evers, UND's center, played after missing two games with an ankle injury.

Loyd also grabbed 12 rebounds. It was her fifth-straight double-double.

UND will open Big Sky play on New Year's Day against Montana State.
