The area powers in North Dakota Class B volleyball didn't allow for an upset Saturday afternoon.

Thompson and Langdon-Edmore-Munich won region titles to advance to the state tournament in the Fargodome starting on Thursday.

In the Region 2 championship, Thompson, which has advanced to the state tournament four seasons in a row, knocked off visiting Grafton 20-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-15.

The Tommies were led by region senior athlete of the year Mackenzie Hughes, who had 12 kills, 13 assists and seven digs.

Thompson's Lexi Telehey, who was named all-region, finished with 17 kills, 14 digs, three aces and two blocks.

In the Region 4 title game, top-seeded and defending state champion Langdon-E-M held off North Star in five sets. The Cardinals, who won the region title for the sixth consecutive season, won by scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-8.

Seeding of the top five teams in the Class B field was held Saturday night by the participating coaches. Thompson will be the No. 2 seed and play random draw Flasher at 10 a.m. in the state quarterfinals. Langdon-E-M is the No. 3 seed and plays random draw Kenmare at 1 p.m.
