UND students will not be able to resell their men's hockey tickets this season.

Ticketmaster made the decision this summer to not support the “closed ticket buyer module,” which was the platform that allowed students to sell their tickets exclusively to other students.

So, if UND continued to allow the resale of tickets, members of the general public would be able to buy the student tickets and start sitting in the student section.

UND and Ralph Engelstad Arena didn't want that.

“We want to make sure we keep the fan experience, for everybody, as best as it possibly can go,” said Kyle Doperalski, UND's associate athletic director for external operations. “So, we want this student section to be exclusively students. We don’t want any non-students in there. We want to make sure we keep that student experience true to the students at The Ralph.”

The change affects both student season tickets and single-game tickets. Students tickets are typically tied to an individual’s student ID number.

“Really the decision was made for us and Ticketmaster made that decision,” he said.

Some UND students aren’t happy about the change.

“I thought it was kind of a rip off,” UND freshman Abby Heilman said, adding students should be able to sell their tickets if they aren’t able to actually use them. "I just think it's still really unfair that this is happening. It's just kind of like they're just taking our money."

Doperalski said there have been no issues with students selling their tickets to other students in the past, but the move by Ticketmaster means students won’t be able to do that anymore.

For students who don't want to purchase season tickets, they can still buy single-game tickets, which start at $13. Single-game tickets go on-sale on Thursday.

UND also changed when students could buy their hockey tickets this year. In previous years, tickets went on sale for each class at a specific time, but this year all students were able to begin buying their tickets at the same time. Student season tickets went on sale Monday. The buying period has also been extended. The change has been welcomed by students, Doperalski said.
