UND has been picked to win this season's Big Sky Conference football title.

The league's coaches and media both predicted the Fighting Hawks will win the 2017 Big Sky title.

UND was the surprise story of the league last season, finishing 8-0 and sharing the title with Eastern Washington.

The Fighting Hawks received six first-place votes by the Big Sky football coaches, and earned 15-of-24 first-place votes from media as both polls were released by league officials Tuesday during the annual Big Sky Conference Kickoff event in Park City, Utah.

North Dakota returns several key contributors from the 2016 season, including safety Cole Reyes and running back John Santiago. Reyes is the Big Sky's reigning Defensive Player of the Year and was selected as the Big Sky's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Monday. The Fighting Hawks also return the Big Sky's Coach of the Year, as Bubba Schweigert returns for his fourth season.

The Big Sky's other 2016 co-champion, Eastern Washington, finished second in both the coaches' and media poll. EWU received first-place votes in both polls.
