UND will remove the interim label from women's basketball coach Mallory Bernhard.

After a national search, which resulted in two finalists, UND will name Bernhard its next head coach.

The other finalist, which was announced Monday morning was Louisiana State University assistant and former Bemidji State player Aaron Kallhoff.

Bernhard (Youngblut) has been the interim coach for the Fighting Hawks since the university parted ways with previous head coach Travis Brewster last spring.

UND has announced it will hold an introductory press conference at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Prior to being named interim head coach, Bernhard spent seven seasons as an assistant at UND, working primarily with the team's guards.

Prior to returning to her alma mater, Bernhard coached Davenport Assumption High School to back-to-back Iowa Class AAA state championships in her two years at the helm.

Bernhard finished her playing career at UND at No. 15 all-time in career points with 1,307. She ranks third in career free-throw percentage (81.6), fifth in career three-pointers made (220) and attempted (573), and 10th in career steals (175) and career three-point field goal percentage (.380).

UND went 2-19 in the 2020-21 season, failing to qualify for the Summit League Tournament.
