GRAND FORKS — St. Cloud State scored three goals on five shots during a 10-minute span in the second period, turning a 2-2 game into a big lead. The Huskies tacked on two goals in the third to beat UND 7-2.

Herald three stars

First star: Jami Krannila, SCSU, 2 goals, 1 assist.
Second star: Veeti Miettinen, SCSU, 1 goal, 2 assists.
Third star: Jack Peart, SCSU, 1 goal, 2 assists.

First period

UND 1, SCSU 0 — Griffin Ness (Gavin Hain, Ryan Sidorski) 2:53. Sidorski curls out of the corner and makes a feed to Hain, who is covering at the top. Hain snaps a shot that Ness tips from the slot to give UND an early lead. It's the fourth-straight Friday that Ness has scored a goal. This one comes on UND's first shot of the game.

UND 1, SCSU 1 — Aidan Spellacy (Chase Brand, Brendan Bushy) 9:12. Spellacy enters the zone up the middle on a seemingly harmless rush. He snaps a shot that appears to hit the blade of a UND defender, change directions on goalie Jakob Hellsten and hit the back of the net to tie it up. It's Spellacy's second goal of the season.

UND 2, SCSU 1 — Jackson Blake 13:40. UND puts together back-to-back shifts of good cycles. At the end of the second one, the Fighting Hawks finally throw a puck on net and it goes in. Blake snapped it from the right circle with a ton of traffic in front of St. Cloud State goalie Jaxon Castor.

Second period

UND 2, SCSU 2 — Jami Krannila (Veeti Miettinen, Jack Peart) 1:39. The Huskies start the second period with 1:03 left on the power play. UND efficiently kills it off, but the Huskies score less than a minute later. Miettinen snaps a shot from the left circle, Hellsten kicks out a big rebound to the right circle and Krannila puts it home before Hellsten can get back in position.

SCSU 3, UND 2 — Grant Cruikshank (Chase Brand) 10:45 (sh). UND's second power play is an excellent one with chance after chance, but Castor holds strong, then at the end, St. Cloud State's Micah Miller pokes a puck away from Cooper Moore at the blue line, the Huskies go the other way and score. Cruikshank's first attempt is blocked and comes right back to him. His second attempt beats Hellsten five-hole.

SCSU 4, UND 2 — Jack Peart (Jami Krannila, Brendan Bushy) 17:13 (dp). With a penalty coming up to UND, the Huskies score on the delayed penalty. Peart gets the puck at the side of the crease, waits for Hellsten to go down, then deposits it.

SCSU 5, UND 2 — Veeti Miettinen (Kyler Kupka) 18:17 (pp). UND defenseman Ty Farmer attempts a clear, but doesn't get it deep. It's intercepted, St. Cloud State comes the other way and scores for the third time on five shots.

Third period

SCSU 6, UND 2 — Jami Krannila (Veeti Miettinen) 9:03. UND continues to be porous defensively, giving up a two-on-one this time that Krannila makes a nice finish, going top shelf. Krannila and Miettinen both have three-point nights.

SCSU 7, UND 2 — Kyler Kupka (Adam Ingram, Dylan Anhorn) 12:20 (pp). Ingram has the puck in the left circle and snaps a shot on net. It either goes off of Kupka or UND defenseman Luke Bast for the seventh of the night.
