OXFORD, Ohio — UND's lengthy hat trick is finally over as Riese Gaber ripped home three goals and four points en route to a Fighting Hawks 8-0 victory. Jackson Blake and Mark Senden also had three-point nights.

Herald three stars

First star: Riese Gaber, UND, 3 goals, 1 assist.
Second star: Jackson Blake, UND, 1 goal, 2 assists.
Third star: Mark Senden, UND, 3 assists.

First period

UND 1, Miami 0 — Riese Gaber (Chris Jandric, Jackson Blake) 9:40 (pp). UND converts on its second power-play chance of the night. Gaber gets three looks from his spot. One is blocked. One is stopped by Miami goalie Logan Neaton's stick. The third time is the charm.

Second period

UND 2, Miami 0 — Judd Caulfield (Mark Senden) 4:17 (sh). Senden forces a turnover in the defensive zone, stealing the puck from Miami forward John Waldron. Caulfield joins the shorthanded rush and it becomes a two-on-one. Senden makes a nifty move to dip around the Miami defender and feed Caulfield, who puts it home.

UND 3, Miami 0 — Riese Gaber (Louis Jamernik V, Jackson Blake) 10:08. UND breaks the other way after a Miami rush. Blake enters the zone up the middle and dishes to Jamernik on the right side. Jamernik hits Gaber with a cross-ice pass and Gaber buries it for his first even-strength goal since the Bemidji State series on Thanksgiving weekend.

UND 4, Miami 0 — Jackson Blake (Riese Gaber, Mark Senden) 11:34 (pp). UND's power play continues to dominate. Gaber gets the puck in his spot and rifles a shot that Neaton stops. The rebound sits to the side of the crease and Senden takes a whack at it. The puck trickles to the other side of the crease and Blake puts it home.

UND 5, Miami 0 — Owen McLaughlin (Ty Farmer, Cooper Moore) 18:08 (pp). UND's power play is still relentless as it cashes it again. This time, it results in College Goal No. 1 for McLaughlin. It's a pretty one, too. He hammers a one-timer from the right circle into the top corner of the net.

Third period

UND 6, Miami 0 — Ben Strinden (Nick Portz, Ty Farmer) 7:52. UND shows no letup in the third. Portz has the puck along the left wall and spots Strinden in the center of the ice. Strinden snaps a shot just inside the post for his third goal of the season.

UND 7, Miami 0 — Dylan James (Carson Albrecht, Ethan Frisch) 8:25. UND adds the extra point as Albrecht has the puck behind the net and feeds James out front for a seventh UND goal. Every UND freshman has now scored tonight.

UND 8, Miami 0 — Riese Gaber (Ethan Frisch, Mark Senden) 19:11 (pp). Riese Gaber finally ends UND's lengthy hat trick drought. He rifles one home on the power play for his third of the game and fourth of the night.

Pregame notes

UND will be without Tyler Kleven, who is serving a one-game suspension due to his third game misconduct as well as three players who suffered injuries in the series opener — center Jake Schmaltz, winger Gavin Hain and defenseman Luke Bast. Schmaltz missed last weekend's series against Minnesota Duluth with an injury, marking his first absence in a game since Nov. 22, 2019, when he was playing with Green Bay in the United States Hockey League. . . Logan Neaton is starting for Miami. It's his third start of the year. He stopped 25 of 29 against Michigan State on Nov. 26 and he stopped 33 of 34 last Saturday at Omaha. . . Miami is without forward Max Dukovac, who was suspended for his kicking game disqualification Friday night. . . Miami also scratched forward Jack Olmstead and defenseman Robby Drazner. Coming into the lineup are forwards Thomas Daskas and John Sladic, and defenseman Nick Donato.
