GRAND FORKS — UND beat Holy Cross 6-0 to open the regular season. Six different players scored goals.

Herald three stars

First star: Chris Jandric, UND, 3 assists
Second star: Drew DeRidder, UND 27 saves.
Third star: Louis Jamernik V, UND, 2 assists.

First period

UND 1, Holy Cross 0 — Jackson Blake (Chris Jandric, Drew DeRidder) 8:24 (pp). Freshman Jackson Blake scores the first goal of the season, finishing off a two-on-one rush. Jandric, coming up the left wing, makes a feed to Blake, who knocks it past Holy Cross goalie Jason Grande.

UND 2, Holy Cross 0 — Mark Senden (Louis Jamernik V, Ty Farmer) 8:41. UND adds a second goal in the span of 17 seconds on another rush. Jamernik V, coming up the right side, feeds Senden on the top of the crease, and the fifth-year senior puts it away.

UND 3, Holy Cross 0 — Gavin Hain (Louis Jamernik V) 11:47. Jamernik V has a multi-point period as he makes a steal in the neutral zone and feeds Hain, who was coming down the slot. Hain roofs it for a goal in his first game back since his season-ending knee injury last January.

UND 4, Holy Cross 0 — Cooper Moore (Ben Strinden, Mark Senden) 12:44. UND keeps pouring it on as Strinden has the puck in the circle and feeds it to Moore at the top of the zone. Moore hammers a one-timer to the corner of the net.

Second period

UND 5, Holy Cross 0 — Riese Gaber (Chris Jandric, Jackson Blake) 8:39 (pp). UND goes to the same play it executed many times last season on the power play with Jandric dishing it to Gaber coming downhill on the right side. Gaber snaps his shot through traffic for his first goal of the season.

Third period

UND 6, Holy Cross 0 — Jake Schmaltz (Cooper Moore, Chris Jandric) 15:05 (pp). Moore has the puck in the right circle and Schmaltz tips his shot from the top of the crease. It's Jandric's third point of the game and UND's third power-play goal.
