First period

UND 1, Canisius 0 -- Shane Pinto 1 (Harrison Blaisdell 1, Jonny Tychonick 1) 8:15. Pinto wastes no time getting the first one out of the way and giving UND a lead. Tychonick makes a nice play high in the zone to get a puck on net, where Blaisdell pokes at the rebound. Pinto follows it up and buries it for his first-career goal.

Comments: Shots in the first period are 14-3. UND forward Grant Mismash, who had four points in the exhibition game last week, was injured crashing hard into the end boards with Colton Poolman and Canisius forward Matt Hoover at the end of the first period. He returned to the bench for the start of the second.

Second period

UND 2, Canisius 0 -- Dixon Bowen 1 (Jasper Weatherby 1, Jackson Keane 1) 5:08. Keane has the puck in the high slot and whips one toward the net. It takes a long bounce off the end wall to Weatherby on the right side of the net. Weatherby whips it across the crease to Bowen, who is standing on the other side and easily sweeps it in the net.

Comments: Canisius camptain Matt Hoover gets ejected at 2:48 of the period for a contact to the head major. He hit Pinto high along the boards. UND didn't score on the ensuing five-minute power play, though. Shots on goal in the second were 13-4 UND. Shot attempts are 60-9 after two periods.

Third period

UND 3, Canisius 0 -- Gabe Bast 1 (Gavin Hain 1, Matt Kiersted 1) 4:43. UND gets a bounce that it didn't get much last season. Bast has the puck at the right point and tries to send a pass to Michaud, cutting to the net. His pass goes off of the leg of Canisius defenseman Blake Wareham.

UND 4, Canisius 0 -- Grant Mismash 1 (Westin Michaud 1, Colton Poolman 1) 7:12. Poolman makes a tremendous play to start the rush, muscling J.D. Pogue off the puck at UND's defensive blue line and pushing the puck up to Michaud, who makes a touch pass to Mismash and start a three-on-two rush. Mismash takes up the right side and snipes one blocker side on Ladd.

UND 5, Canisius 0 -- Dixon Bowen (Jasper Weatherby) 8:04. Bowen creates a turnover in the defensive zone and carries it all the way to the corner of the offensive zone. Weatherby picks up the puck there and centers a feed from behind the net. Bowen picks up Weatherby's feed in a crowd and beats Ladd five-hole. Ladd is pulled for rookie Jacob Barczewski after the goal.
