Former UND walk-on Dan Senkbeil says he will transfer to the University of Vermont, where he will return to his natural position of defense.
Senkbeil will have to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules. He will have two years of eligibility left beginning in 2014-15.
Senkbeil, who became known by his nicknames of 'Jim' or 'Jimmer' after a teammate once forgot his actual name, arrived on campus as a defenseman, but was moved to forward due to a rash of injuries on the team.
He was a fixture as a fourth-line forward during UND's run to the Broadmoor Trophy at the 2012 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Five.
Senkbeil remained at forward last season, where he suited up 19 times in 42 games. He registered one goal and two points. His goal was a game-winner at home against the University of Wisconsin.

During his two years at UND, Senkbeil had one goal and four assists in 49 games.
UND will host Vermont to open the regular season in October, but Senkbeil won't be eligible to play. He could play against UND next season, when the teams meet for a series in Burlington, Vt.
Vermont has several UND connections on the roster, including Stephane Pattyn's younger brother, Yvan, and Brett Bruneteau's brother, Nick.
UND will have 26 players on its roster this season.
