With a short recruiting window for new UND football coach Bubba Schweigert, the 2014 recruiting class was assumed to be smaller than normal.
But with Wednesday’s signing day rapidly approaching, it appears Schweigert’s first recruiting class will be larger than expected.
UND received at least seven verbal commitments over the weekend, growing the list of known commitments to 23. That list includes both scholarship and preferred walk-on players.
Two of the new commitments are in-state: Minot long snapper Jacob Holmen (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) and Lakota defensive lineman Dylan Beck (6-4, 285).
UND landed three more from Minnesota in Chanhassen offensive lineman Grant Aplin (6-1, 290), Becker linebacker Sawyer Knick (6-2, 220) and Maple Grove fullback Tyler Coyne (6-1, 230).

The other two new verbals are wide receiver Marcell Kellum (6-3, 180) of Lagrange, Ill., and tight end Luke Stanley (6-4, 210) of Menomonie, Wis.
