UND football lines up two games against Minnesota, one against Iowa State

UND will play the Gophers in 2028 and 2030, while matching up with Iowa State in 2029.

The UND athletic department scheduling the Minnesota Gophers isn't new ground, but it's certainly unique for this sport.

On Tuesday, the Herald learned UND has signed contracts with Minnesota to play non-conference football games against the Gophers in 2028 and 2030.

UND's 2029 game was also revealed as the Fighting Hawks will take on Iowa State.

UND will play at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2028 for $500,000. On Thursday, Aug. 29, 2030, UND will play for $525,000, according to

UND and Minnesota first played one another in 1900 and have played 19 times overall, the latest being Minnesota's 42-30 win over UND in 1974. The Gophers have won all 19 meetings.


UND's upcoming guarantee games include Nebraska in 2022, Boise State in 2023, Iowa State in 2024, Kansas State in 2025, Nebraska in 2026, Minnesota in 2028, Iowa State in 2029 and Minnesota in 2030.

UND's only FBS win came against Wyoming in 2015.

The Fighting Hawks, despite leading 21-7 in the first quarter, fell 48-24 at Utah State in this year's FBS game.
