After a come-from-behind upset on the road at No. 5 Sam Houston State, the UND football team has entered the STATS FCS Top 25 poll.

The Fighting Hawks are ranked No. 22 in the latest poll released Monday.

"I don't think we should really worry about that," UND quarterback Nate Ketteringham said. "It's just a number."

Sam Houston State, which had a 21-game home winning streak snapped by UND, dropped to No. 11.

"It showed us who we are as a team, but we can't focus on that too much," UND cornerback Evan Holm said.

This week, homecoming and Potato Bowl come together for the same weekend as the Fighting Hawks play Idaho State at the Alerus Center at 4 p.m.

"We have to really move on and not dwell on the past," Holm said. "So what if we had a good game last week? Idaho State's a good team and we have to approach it like that."

The latest poll marks UND's first time in the rankings since last season. UND peaked as high as No. 10 in the polls early in the 2017 season.

The Fighting Hawks, however, lost to South Dakota 45-7 with that No. 10 ranking and sank to No. 17.

While ranked at No. 17, UND lost the following week at home to Montana State and were bounced from the Top 25.

"The message is to eliminate the noise," UND coach Bubba Schweigert said. "The noise can be good for your program. The community and the university get excited about the Potato Bowl but our job is to prepare for the football game versus Idaho State."

UND didn't crack the Top 25 in the FCS Coaches Poll.
