The UND High Performance Center, the school’s $20 million indoor practice facility, is entering its final stages of construction.

Crews were installing the football field’s artificial turf on Thursday morning while UND officials toured the complex.

The new turf, which covers the 100-yard football field, alternates two tones of green.

The facility’s scoreboard also was in place Thursday morning. The scoreboard is placed behind the north end zone.

“It’s been an exciting process,” said UND athletic director Brian Faison. “It’s been many, many, many years on the drawing board.”

The indoor practice facility is expected to help a number of sports at UND, ranging from football to track and field to women’s soccer. Practices for a number of UND sports no longer will be affected due to poor weather.

When completed, the facility will feature a 100-yard football field and a 300-meter NCAA regulation track with eight lanes. UND hopes to eventually hold track meets at the facility.

Plans also call for seating for approximately 1,500 fans.

UND officials hope the facility will be in use by early August.

UND will open its fall football camp in early August. North Dakota’s first game is scheduled Sept. 6 at Wyoming.
