Harmon Badger of Grand Forks shared this story about a fishing adventure his 3-year-old grandson experienced during Memorial Day weekend in northeast Minnesota.
For many fishermen, the Memorial Day weekend fishing was not so memorable due to the wet weather. For 3-year-old Greyson Lundbohm, it will be one he won't forget.
Greyson was staying at his grandparents' (Harmon and Laurel Badger of Grand Forks) lake cabin on Crane Lake, Minn., over the weekend along with his parents (Bryan and Misty Lundbohm of Roseau, Minn.) and two brothers. During one of the rain breaks, Greyson, dad Bryan, little brother Zaden and Uncle Jeremy Badger of Grand Forks took the boat out for a slow troll close to the cabin.
Greyson was well-equipped with his deluxe Spiderman rod and reel tipped with a Lindy rig and leech. After fishing for some time, Greyson exclaimed, "I have a fish." The reply from the boat was, "You have another snag." "No," Greyson insisted. "I have a fish."
Sure enough, he had a fish that took a long time to get close to the boat, and everyone could see it was a nice-size walleye. Just as Greyson's dad was getting ready to net the walleye, along came a big northern pike ready to take a bite out of the fish. Dad scooped them both into the net and they taxied both fish over to the dock only 50 yards away.

The walleye was 27 inches long and the northern was 36 inches long. When asked what he thought about getting the biggest fish, Greyson just smiled from ear to ear. After the photo session, both fish were successfully released and maybe someday, another kid will have a memorable experience. The picture and story will be posted in the cabin for future generations.
