Bob Motzko was introduced as the head coach at Minnesota on Thursday afternoon, and terms were revealed for his contract (which hasn’t become official yet).

Motzko’s deal will be for five years, and he will make $525,000 during his first season, $565,000 during his second season and get a five percent annual raise after that.

As I mentioned yesterday, UND is going to have to sign  Brad Berry to a new deal this summer - he has one year left on his initial contract - and these new contracts are certainly driving up the market. Berry is currently around $300,000 base. It’s hard to know exactly where he’ll wind up on his next deal.

As has been the case in the past, you can expect the contract to address the assistant coaches. This is something that  Dave Hakstol started when he was the head coach, knowing that it was important to be able to retain assistant coaches in college hockey. Some of that work by Hakstol has probably helped UND hang on to associate coach  Dane Jackson, who has been a frequent target of NHL teams.
