FARGO

North Dakota State got 5 million steps closer to the renovation of its Bison Sports Arena this morning.

Fargo-based Scheels announced a $5 million donation to the $32 million fund drive that will go on top of the $10 million donated by Sanford Health in September. The stadium portion of the project will be called Scheels Arena while the entire project, which includes a separate indoor track and field facility, will be called the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.

NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor said no construction date has been set. But he said the project is on an aggressive schedule.

"I guess it would be appropriate to say Merry Christmas NDSU," said Scheels CEO Steve Scheel. "We're pleased to allow NDSU take a major step to a wonderful venue."
