Rydell National Wildlife Refuge, 17788 349th St. SE, Erskine, Minn., will be closed to the general public twice in the next few weeks for special deer hunts, refuge staff said.

The first closure is set for Thursday, Oct. 11 through Saturday, Oct. 13, when the refuge will be closed for the annual Accessible Deer Hunt. The refuge also will be closed to the general public Saturday, Oct. 27 and Sunday, Oct. 28 for the annual Mentored Youth Deer Hunt.

The Accessible Deer Hunt that gets underway Thursday is conducted in cooperation with the Options Resource Center for Independent Living in East Grand Forks. The Mentored Youth Deer Hunt is a cooperative effort with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for young hunters between the ages of 12 and 15.

Both hunts have a limited number of participants that were selected through a drawing earlier in the year. Signs will be posted at refuge entry points during both closures.
