FARGO – Milnor-Wyndmere-Lidgerwood sophomore Peyton Frolek raced to first-place finishes in the girls 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters at Saturday’s North Dakota Class B Southeast Regional at Lisbon High School, but when Frolek competed in the 1,600-meter relay, she exceeded the maximum meters allowed to an individual in one day.
The violation ultimately forced Frolek to be disqualified from all of her events and any points she earned were also forfeited from Milnor-W-L’s final team tally.
Milnor-W-L’s 1,600-meter relay team had yet to qualify for state and Frolek was added in hopes of giving the team a chance to qualify, but it ultimately was disqualified because Frolek had already ran 5,600 meters – the maximum meters an individual can run at any given meet. The meters limit is listed in the North Dakota High School Activities’ track and field regulations.
Frolek is still eligible to compete at the state meet later this week in Bismarck as she met qualifying standards in the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters during the regular season.
Milnor-W-L’s final girls team score was 99, good for third place. Revised results were not available as of Monday.

At first it appeared as though only the relay was disqualified, but a tournament official sent an email to all Southeast Region coaches and ADs on Sunday informing them of the ruling regarding the violation.
The email states that the fourth place finishers in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 be moved up as state qualifiers. The top-three finishers in each event at a Class B regional meet automatically qualify for the state meet.
