Red River holds off East Grand Forks for boys hockey win

The Green Wave dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-4 against Grand Forks foes as Red River held off East Grand Forks 5-3 at the Civic Center.

After playing six games in North Dakota, including four against Grand Forks opponents, the East Grand Forks boys hockey program is probably ready to be done with the west side of the Red River.

The Green Wave dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-4 against Grand Forks foes as Red River held off East Grand Forks 5-3 at the Civic Center.

The Roughriders halted a two-game losing skid and improved to 10-4-0.

The teams were tied 2-2 after one period after East Grand Forks' Landon Parker and Grady Magner scored and Red River's Jake Grandstrand and Landon Langenstein also scored.

Red River took a 4-2 lead after two thanks to goals from Justin Wasvick and Drew Melland.

East Grand Forks cut the lead to one goal with a Zach Stocker goal at 1:39 of the third period. But Mason Reynolds of Red River scored into an empty net with 24 seconds left to seal the win.

Red River goalie Andrew Peterson ended with 28 saves, while Green Wave goalie Cole Quirk made 16 stops.
