Grand Forks Red River finished the girls golf regular season in a second-place rut.
The Roughriders were runners-up at their own invitational meet Wednesday at King’s Walk Golf Course. Fargo Shanley won with a 343. Red River and Fargo Davies tied for second at 350, with Red River getting second because its No. 5 golfer had a better score than Davies’ No. 5.
In fourth place was Grand Forks Central with a 371.

Shanley won every Eastern Dakota Conference meet this season. Red River finished second in every EDC meet. Wednesday marked the third time in the eight EDC meets that the Roughriders finished within single digits of the Deacons.
Red River coach Eric Sanders said there is no frustration in the season-long bid to overtake Shanley.
“Nobody else in the conference has beaten them, either,’’ Sanders said. “Shanley is really good.
“You want to win. But you have to focus on the process, of working to improve. You don’t get to control the other teams’ scores in golf.
“Today was a good day to build confidence. We didn’t all chip and putt well today. But we hit the ball well, better than we have all year.’’
Grand Forks had three players within three strokes of co-medalists Greta McArthur of Shanley and Ava Olson of Davies, each of whom shot an 80.
Red River’s Lily Bredemeier tied for third with an 81. Central’s Clara Hanson was one stroke back, tied for fifth at 82. Red River’s Lexi Laframboise was in a three-way tie for seventh at 83. Also making the top 10 was Red River’s Braelyn Liang, who tied for 10th with an 88.
“We had a solid day,’’ Sanders said. “Lily and Lexi played well. They’ve been consistent all year. Braelyn was in the top 10 for the second time. She’s played really well lately.’’

Central finished fourth for the fourth straight meet and shot its low round of the season by one stroke.
“We had four girls under a 100; that’s a good round for us,’’ Central coach Nathan Olson said. “We started out the year (consistently) placing fifth. We knew we could do better than that. So I’m not surprised by how we’re doing. Just pleased.’’
The teams will compete Monday in the East Region meet in Wahpeton.
