FARGO--It was just two months ago when the Carrington wrestling team lost a dual 71-0. Hard to imagine considering what the Cardinals did in the Fargodome on Friday night.
Carrington left little doubt who the best Class B wrestling team is this year, rolling to a 57-12 dual team championship win over Lisbon at the North Dakota state tournament.
"We wanted to make it seem like there has never been a team like us," said Walker Carr, one of six seniors on the Carrington team that won its second straight dual team championship and is on the verge of winning its second straight individual team championship today.

The back-to-back wins renew a wrestling tradition that Carrington displayed when it won six individual team championships in the late 1980s and early 1990s. And the Cardinals' dominance was a result of what Walker said was perhaps one of the toughest schedules a Carrington wrestling team ever had to go through.
The Cardinals lost a dual this season to Bismarck, which won its second straight Class A dual team title Friday night. They split with Class A Minot, which placed third Friday night.
Then there was the trip to "The Clash" in Rochester, Minn., where Carrington lost 71-0 to a team from California that was ranked No. 3 in the nation.
"It was a great experience," said Carrington head coach Josh Kerbaugh, whose team bounced back to post a 3-3 record at The Clash. "It just showed us if we want to wrestle the best, we better step it up a level."
And no one has been at Carrington's level at this week's state tournament. After rolling past Minot Ryan 62-12 in the opening round Thursday, Carrington posted a 68-3 win over Central Cass in Friday's semifinals. In the championship match against Lisbon, Carrington won its first eight matches.
"We didn't want to give them any breathing room," said Kerbaugh, who was two-time runner-up wrestler at Fargo South in the early 1990s. "We just wanted to slam the door and take the wind out of their sails as much as we could."
After wrestling at North Dakota State, Kerbaugh eventually was the head coach at the University of Mary in Bismarck for five years before becoming an assistant coach at Minnesota State Moorhead. When he saw a teaching opening at Carrington five years, he jumped at the chance to coach wrestling at a school where "The Pit Crew" youth program was already in place.
"That is the backbone of our program," Kerbaugh said.

"If you're not in wrestling, what else do you do?" said Carr. "All these little kids always look up to the varsity wrestlers."
And a lot of Class B opponents are looking up to Carrington this year.
Takedowns
Riley Zachmeier of Rugby knocked off top-seeded Coy Awender of Oakes in the 106-pound semifinals with a convincing 14-4 win. Zachmeier, a freshman, came into the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will go into today's championship match with a 44-5 record. Awender, also a freshman, saw his record fall to 40-7. ... Wyatt Nagel of Linton-HMB knocked off top-seeded Andrew Jahnke of Central Cass with a 6-5 win in the 132-pound semifinals. Nagel, a senior, will take a 39-10 record into the championship match. Jahnke, a junior, saw his record fall to 32-8. ... Carrington's Billy Holtan, the defending 152-pound champion, had a close call in his semifinal match pulling off a 3-2 win over Minot Ryan's Konner Beeter. Holtan, a senior, will head in the championship match with a 43-3 record. Beeter, a junior with the No. 2 seed, saw his record fall to 49-7.
