Scott Koberinski has been an athlete, coach or an organizer during the last 30 years.
The combination made him the right fit to become East Grand Forks Senior High’s next athletic and activities director.
Koberinski, the former UND hockey player, assistant coach and Grand Forks Park District recreation manager, was approved this week to succeed Jim Scanlan as Senior High’s activities director.
“I think it’s something that’s right up my alley,” Koberinski said. “Dealing with sporting events and activities, drama and speech, and getting to know the community better in East Grand Forks will be great. It’s going to be a new challenge and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

There were 18 applicants for the position. Six were initially interviewed and two were brought back for final interviews.
Koberinski was selected for the position and it was approved by the School Board this week and will officially start Friday.
“Scott’s past history of working with the Grand Forks Park District; his multitude of work in scheduling and working with coaches; and being able to evaluate staff was a key thing that we were looking for,” East Grand Forks Superintendent David Pace said.
Koberinski said he contacted Scanlan to find out more information about the job before applying. Scanlan left to become the head women’s hockey coach at Bemidji State.
“Having him in the position prior to me really helped,” Koberinski said. “I know him as a friend and as a coach. I asked him about the job. He was very excited about his new opportunity, but quite honestly, a little reluctant to leave something he loved doing for 18 years. He spoke from the heart about how much that position meant to him.”
Koberinski said he’ll have to dive right in. Senior High has to hire a new tennis coach and a girls soccer coach before the start of the fall season. Terry Paukert (tennis) and Jessica Krog (girls soccer) both stepped down.
He’s also hoping to continue as the color commentator for UND men’s hockey home games for Midco Sports Network. Scanlan also served as a UND hockey commentator while holding the Senior High activities job.
