The field is set for the fifth annual Herald Jason Stadstad Hockey Classic, scheduled next week.

The charity boys high school hockey tournament in memory of former Grand Forks Central hockey player Jason Stadstad benefits Altru Hospice and local youth hockey. The tournament has raised nearly $50,000 for local charities since its inception.

The games for the eight-team field are scheduled for Ralph Engelstad Arena, the REA Olympic Arena and Purpur Arena.

The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday at REA.

Along with Grand Forks Central, Grand Forks Red River and East Grand Forks Senior High, other teams in this year's tournament include Fargo Davies, Bismarck High, Bismarck Century, Princeton, Minn., and Brainerd, Minn.

Apple Valley won the past two tournament titles, while Roseau -- another Minnesota hockey power -- won the inaugural championship in 2007.

The first round will begin at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28.

First-round pairings are:

n EGF Senior High vs. Bismarck Century, REA main rink, 2 p.m.

n Fargo Davies vs. Brainerd, REA main rink, 4:15 p.m.

In addition, there will be a junior varsity tournament involving the same schools. It will be a round-robin event. The junior varsity games will be played at the East Grand Forks Civic Center, Purpur Arena and Gambucci Arena.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students through 12th grade for each game, including junior varsity games. Single-day tickets will be honored throughout the day at REA, Purpur, Gambucci and the East Grand Forks Civic Center.
