Jones, Dietrich split  first day at State

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Chessa Jones and Emma Dietrich of East Grand Forks Senior High split on day one of the Minnesota State Class A doubles tournament Thursday.

Jones and Dietrich lost their first match to Kayla McIver and Kylee Funk of Foley 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 to start the day.

“We started off a little nervous and lost our very first set 0-6,” said Senior High coach Kyle Hanson. “The girls played very well in their second match and did a great job of keeping their pace. There were some challenges in that match, but we handled them.”

Jones and Dietrich bounced back in their first consolation match as they defeated Renee Warren and Kathryn Burquest of Parkers Prairie 6-3, 6-1.

“We need to be moving a little better today and hopefully see some better footwork,” said Hanson. “The biggest thing is that the nerves are gone and we can just go out there and play tennis.”
