Sacred Heart 11, Laporte 1
East Grand Forks Sacred Heart opened Minnesota Section 8A play Tuesday with a 10-run win over Laporte.
The Eagles improved to 16-3 and will play Thursday at home against Norman County in the next round.
Michele Remer and Adrianna Vasek each went 2-for-3 for Sacred Heart.

Hannah Reimer picked up the win, striking out eight Laporte batters in three innings. Anna Koponen struck out three more opposing batters in two innings.
“It was a good hitting day and our pitchers had things under control,” said Sacred Heart coach Mike Marek.

Mahnomen-Waubun 0
MAHNOMEN, Minn. - East Grand Forks Senior High scored four runs in the fourth inning en route to its win over Mahnomen-Waubun on Tuesday in the Minnesota Section 8AA tournament.
The Green Wave will play Thief River Falls on Thursday in the next round.
Megan Boman picked up the win. She allowed one hit, that coming in the sixth inning with the Green Wave leading 10-0.
Mallory Aitchison went 2-for-4 while Grace Beck finished 1-for-2 for the Wave, who improved to 9-7.
“We played well,” said Senior High coach Heidi Spicer. “We ran the bases better than we normally do.”

EGF Senior High sweeps
Cooper Jerome went 4-for-4 with four RBI to lead East Grand Forks Senior High to a 21-4 win over Crookston in the first game of a doubleheader at Stauss Field.
“The first game we came out with our bats hot and a lot of guys were hitting the ball hard,” said Senior High coach Garret Hjelle. “The guys were aggressive on the base paths and we did a good job of taking advantage of our speed.”
Reed Hjelle also had three hits in the win.
The Green Wave defeated Crookston 5-3 in game two of the doubleheader, with Micah Friez earning the win.
Senior High improved to 12-5.

FERTILE, Minn. - Sacred Heart picked up 13 hits in picking up the road win Tuesday.
Zac Bethke, Riley Wavra and Nolan Hallaway had two hits each, with Wavra and Hallaway each getting a pair of doubles to lead the Eagles.
“We finally hit the ball and got the offense going,’’ Sacred Heart coach Paul Bethke said. “That’s one of our biggest hit totals of the year.’’
Sacred Heart improved to 9-5.

Senior High falls in section
PARK RAPIDS, Minn. - East Grand Forks Senior High won its first match but fell to eventual champion Crookston on Tuesday in the Minnesota Section 8A meet.
Senior High beat Park Rapids 4-3 before Crookston downed the Green Wave 6-1 in the semifinals.

Crookston then downed Thief River Falls 4-3 in the title match. The win snapped Thief River Falls’ streak of 10 straight section titles.
The Senior High doubles teams of Matt Cummings-Aaron Havis and Hunter Olson-Kyle Schlieman recorded wins to lift Senior High into the semifinals.
“It was a lot of fun having everyone watching only those two (doubles) matches to finish and the players did a great job,” said Senior High coach Kyle Hanson.
