ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Leah Jensen's third-period goal carried East Grand Forks Senior High over the St. Cloud Icebreakers on Wednesday.

It was Jensen's 25th goal of the season.

"Leah beat a couple of defenders and made a great move on the goalie," Senior High coach Jim Scanlan said.

The win improved Senior High to 9-3-1.

Chelsey Grassel scored Senior High's other goal in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Madi Galstad stopped 10 shots for the Green Wave.

"It was a very good game," Scanlan said. "It seemed like there were more scoring opportunities than what the shots indicated."

The teams play again today.

Boys basketball

EGF Senior High 61,

Kittson Co. Central 54, OT

THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Nathan Carlson and Jim Warmack combined to score 46 points to lead East Grand Forks Senior High to a win over Kittson County Central in the consolation semifinals of the Russ Smith Holiday Classic on Wednesday.

Carlson had 25 points while Warmack had 21 for the Green Wave, who outscored the Wolfpack 7-0 in overtime.

"Kittson played a very good game and made some shots at crucial points," Senior High co-coach Travis Lindgren said. "We played well down the stretch. It was back and forth. It was nothing flashy -- just solid down the stretch."

EGF Sacred Heart 62,

Red Lake 59

THIEF RIVER FALLS -- A 13-0 second-half run led East Grand Forks Sacred Heart to its win against Red Lake on Wednesday in the consolation round of the Russ Smith Holiday Classic.

The Eagles will meet East Grand Forks Senior High in the fifth-place game today.

Brett MacLeod led Sacred Heart with 24 points, while Austin LeTexier added 16 followed by James Yoney's 11.

Ryan Holthusen led Red Lake with 21 points.

EGF Senior High 60,

Staples-Motley 33

CROOKSTON -- Chelsey Frydenlund's 23 points led East Grand Forks Senior High to a 60-33 win against Staples-Motley on Wednesday night.

"She's our leader," Senior High coach Durene Frydenlund said. "Not only by scoring but by getting the ball out to our shooters, too.

"For the second night in a row, our defense came to play; that set the tone.

Senior High led by nine points after the first half. Things got even better in the second. "We started pulling down rebounds and running the floor to extend our lead," the Senior High coach said.

KayLeigh Kuznia added eight points for Senior High, which will play Roseau on Monday.

n Boys hockey: A five-goal outburst in the third period carried East Grand Forks Senior High to a 7-5 win over the North Carolina Hurricanes in the Ralph Engelstad Holiday Classic on Wednesday in Thief River Falls. North Carolina led 4-2 heading into the final period. Andrew Gregoire, Josh Moser, Kolton Aubol, Gage Ausmus and Tommy Hajicek all scored for the Green Wave in the final period. Beau Scheving kicked out 25 shots in goal for the Green Wave.

n Girls basketball: Caitlin Farroh scored 30 points to lead Grand Forks Central to a 63-50 road win against Minot on Wednesday. The Knights led by four points at half. Rebecca Fee added 12 points for the Knights. Holly Johnson netted 16 points for Minot.
