PREP BASEBALL: GF Central downs Red River in state semifinals

MANDAN, N.D. - Brock Reller went the distance and struck out nine batters to lead Grand Forks Central past Grand Forks Red River 3-2 on Friday night in the semifinal round of the North Dakota state Class A baseball tournament.

MANDAN, N.D. - Brock Reller went the distance and struck out nine batters to lead Grand Forks Central past Grand Forks Red River 3-2 on Friday night in the semifinal round of the North Dakota state Class A baseball tournament.

The Knighs will play Bismarck High on Saturday for the state title. Bismarck High beat Dickinson 6-5 in the other semifinal.

Central scored single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings while the Riders plated runs in the third and fourth innings.

Reller, a freshman, allowed only five hits. Of his nine strike outs, eight came on called third strikes.

Nick Lund went 2-for-3 for Central. Reller also was 2-for-3.

Colin Hennessy took the loss for the Riders, who will play for third place on Saturday against Dickinson.
