Outdoors events remain few and far between as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, but a few events are beginning to trickle in across the region. Park vehicle passes are required for all events at North Dakota and Minnesota state parks. Vehicle passes are $7 daily and $35 annually in both states.
Aug. 22: Lake Bronson Adventure Race, 9 a.m., Lake Bronson State Park, Minn. Two- or three-person teams will compete in a 2- to 3-hour race consisting of canoeing (0-1.5 miles), biking (5 to 10 miles) and trekking (2 to 4 miles). Registration: $75 per team through June 30, $100 per team through July 31 and $125 after July 31; limited to 40 teams. Registration will close at 11 p.m. July 19 or once the race is full. July 24-25: Red River “Cattitude” virtual fishing tournament, Red River. Fishing hours will be from noon. to 8 p.m. July 24 and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25, with tournament boundaries from the Minnesota Highway 317 bridge north of Oslo, Minn., upstream to the Red River bridge near Frog Point east of Buxton, N.D. There will be no in-person gathering or common starting point during the tournament, which is being run through the FishDonkey virtual fishing app. Entry is $165 per two-person team, payable through the FishDonkey app. To enter, download the FishDonkey app and look for the Red River Cattitude tournament in the menu; open to 100 teams. July 24-26: United Way of Bemidji Area first annual Bass and Walleye Fishing Tournament, any lake in Beltrami, Clearwater or Hubbard counties. Entry fee $200 per two-person team for this virtual fishing event, which is being run through the FishDonkey virtual fishing app using a catch-photo-release format with no in-person gatherings. Virtual rules meeting set for 5 p.m. July 23. Aug. 8-9: Catfish Capital Challenge (formerly known as the Rod & Reel Rally), Red River near Drayton, N.D. Fishing hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Event is sold out, but daily weigh-ins are scheduled at the Hastings Landing tournament headquarters. In addition, a citywide rummage sale is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 8, and a dance will begin at 9 p.m., both events in downtown Drayton. Info: catfishdrayton.com.
