Outdoors events remain few and far between as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, but a few events are beginning to surface across the region. Park vehicle passes are required for all events at North Dakota and Minnesota state parks. Vehicle passes are $7 daily and $35 annually in both states.

  • July 10: Halloween in July with a Twist, Turtle River State Park, 3084 Park Ave., Arvilla, N.D. While the park is still not able to offer its regular Halloween in July event, campers can't celebrate. Decorate your campsite, dress up and play some social distance-friendly games.   • Aug. 22: Lake Bronson Adventure Race, 9 a.m., Lake Bronson State Park, Minn. Two- or three-person teams will compete in a 2- to 3-hour race consisting of canoeing (0-1.5 miles), biking (5 to 10 miles) and trekking (2 to 4 miles). Registration: $75 per team through June 30, $100 per team through July 31 and $125 after July 31; limited to 40 teams. Registration will close at 11 p.m. July 19 or once the race is full.   • July 24-25: Red River “Cattitude” virtual fishing tournament, Red River. Fishing hours will be from noon. to 8 p.m. July 24 and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25, with tournament boundaries from the Minnesota Highway 317 bridge north of Oslo, Minn., upstream to the Red River bridge near Frog Point east of Buxton, N.D. There will be no in-person gathering or common starting point during the tournament, which is being run through the FishDonkey virtual fishing app. Entry is $155.24 per two-person team after fees.   • Aug. 8-9: Catfish Capital Challenge (formerly known as the Rod & Reel Rally), Red River near Drayton, N.D. Fishing hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Event is sold out, but daily weigh-ins are scheduled at the Hastings Landing tournament headquarters. In addition, a citywide rummage sale is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 8, and a dance will begin at 9 p.m., both events in downtown Drayton. Info: catfishdrayton.com.
