The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has allocated an elk tag to Red River Valley Community Action to use as a fundraiser.

The organization is selling 1,000 raffle tickets for a drawing set for Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Grand Forks Scheels store, 2800 S. Columbia Road. Red River Valley Community Action will use 90% of the proceeds to provide temporary assistance to women, children, veterans and families in need of food, housing, transportation and other essential support.

The remaining 10% will be donated back to Game and Fish for conservation-related projects such as hunting access, conservation education, habitat development and shooting range management.

The raffle winner can use the tag to shoot any legal elk in any North Dakota unit during the 2020 season, and it will not count toward the “once-in-a-lifetime” limit that applies to North Dakota hunters who draw a tag through the Game and Fish Department’s lottery.

Nonresidents also can hunt in North Dakota if they win the tag, as can previous North Dakota elk lottery winners. Once the Game and Fish Department receives the name of the legal hunter who will be the license recipient, the tag cannot be transferred.
