Clearwater County authorities issue bear alert for area near Clearbrook-Gonvick school
BAGLEY, Minn.—The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office is asking parents with school-age children in the Clearbrook-Gonvick school district to be on the lookout for bears and not allow their children to walk to school until further notice.
Bears have been spotted near the intersection of Clearwater Lake Road and 169th Avenue—the intersection in front of the Clearbrook-Gonvick School— the sheriff's department said Tuesday in a post on its Facebook page.
"If you do see the bears, for your own safety, keep your distance," the sheriff's office said in the post. "A mother bear will defend her cubs even if you mean no harm."
The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office, the Clearbrook-Gonvick Police Department and officers from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are aware of the bears and will be monitoring them, the sheriff's office said.
