With spring flood conditions approaching, an app and website is available for people to post reports and share photos of snowpack, ice jams, overland flooding and similar events in the Red River Basin.

The CRED flood app—CRED stands for Citizen Reporting for the Red River Flood— was built several years ago under a partnership between the International Water Institute and Houston Engineering, said Andy Ulven, monitoring and education specialist for the Fargo-based IWI. The National Weather Service also has been promoting the CRED app in anticipation of the looming food season, Ulven said.

"These observations are critical to our day-to-day analysis and forecasting process," the NWS in Grand Forks said on its Facebook page.
