More than 400 bear permits remain for the quota areas of Minnesota after the lottery and now are available at any license agent.
Hunters who were selected in the lottery had to purchase their licenses by Thursday, Aug. 1, and remaining licenses that hadn’t been purchased went on sale at noon Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Licenses remaining by permit area were as follows: Area 12, 21 permits; Area 13, 26 permits; Area 22, 15 permits; Area 24, 22 permits; Area 25, 52 permits; Area 27, 25 permits; Area 28, nine permits; Area 31, 67 permits; Area 41, seven permits; Area 45, 22 permits; Area 46, 37 permits; Area 47, six permits; and Area 51, 102 permits.
An unlimited number of bear licenses will be sold over the counter for the no-quota area that includes east-central and far northwestern Minnesota. No-quota licenses are valid only in the no-quota area. Hunters with a no-quota license can shoot one bear.
Bear season opens Sunday, Sept. 1, and continues through Sunday, Oct. 13.
