Give turtles a 'brake,' DNR says in reminder that motorists should watch for turtles on the road

Be on the lookout for turtles crossing the road.

That’s the message from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, which on Monday issued a reminder to people that turtles are now crossing roads moving to familiar nesting locations. Allowing turtles to cross the roads is vital to the preservation of regional populations. Roadway mortality is believed to be a major factor in turtle population declines throughout the United States.
