  • July 10: Halloween in July, Turtle River State Park, 3084 Park Ave. NE, Arvilla, ND. Info: www.parkrec.nd.gov , trsp@nd.gov or (701) 795-3180.

  • July 16 (rescheduled from June 11): Game warden exam, 10 a.m., North Dakota Game and Fish Department headquarters, 100 N. Bismarck Expressway, Bismarck. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and have a bachelor’s degree at time of hire. For more information, see the district game warden job announcement on the Game and Fish website at gf.nd.gov .

  • July 21: Red River paddling excursion, “Animals of the Red,” 5:30 p.m., Hjemkomst Landing, Moorhead. Join Nicole Lee with the Red River Zoo to see animals and signs of where they live and play along the route. Participants will hit the water at 6 p.m. Cost: $15 per person or $10 for those providing their own vessel. Register online or call (218) 299-5296.

  • July 27: RiverArts Fishing Clinic, 5:30 to 8 p.m., W.H. Davis Memorial Park, Moorhead. Free event will include educational stations on casting, knot tying, fish identification and more, along with a chance to actually fish in the Red River. Members of FM Walleyes will be present to assist, but adult supervision is required for all youth participants. Participants are encouraged to bring a fishing pole but some will be on hand.   • Aug. 7-8: Minnesota State Archery Association 3-D Shoot, Thief River Falls 3-D Range (look for signs from 140th Avenue Northeast going south from Thief River Falls). Thief River Falls Archery Club is host, and shooting hours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8. DNR hunting and fishing webinars

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is hosting a series of upcoming how-to webinars on a variety of fishing and hunting topics. All of the free webinars start at noon, and pre-registration is required at mndnr.gov/fishwildlife/outreach/index.html. Webinar sessions and topics are as follows:

  • July 14: Getting started in archery.

  • July 21: Finding trout in Minnesota streams and lakes.

  • July 28: Bear hunting and biology.

  • Aug. 4: How to get certified in firearms safety.

  • Aug. 11: Rifle basics.

  • Aug. 18: Mourning dove hunting .

  • Aug. 25: DNR at the 2021 Minnesota State Fair.

Fishing

  • July 17: Third annual Bemidji State University “War on the Shore” fishing tournament, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Virtual tournament will be conducted through www.tourneyangler.com , and the registration fee is $300 per boat (up to three anglers). Teams fishing in the Local Division are limited to lakes in Beltrami, Hubbard and Cass counties, while teams fishing the National Division can fish anywhere, as long as the target species (walleyes and northern pike) are present. Tourney is catch-and-release only, with prizes based on the total length of 10 fish (seven walleyes and three northern pike) per boat. A social, meal, award ceremony and silent auction will follow from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ruttger’s Birchmont Lodge, 7598 Bemidji Road NE, Bemidji.
