FARGO - The North Dakota State athletic department will stop printing media guides effective immediately, the school announced today.

All of the publications will remain available on the department's official Web site, GoBison.com.

A significant cost savings, the rising popularity of online resources, and a desire to be environmentally responsible were factors in the decision, according to NDSU athletic director Gene Taylor.

"Around the country it is a decision that many conferences and institutions at all levels are making," Taylor said. "We anticipate that some of the savings from printing the media guides will be used to do some upgrades to our Web site."

The move is expected to save NDSU almost $20,000 in the current budget.

North Dakota State spent $19,253 on media guide printing in 2008-09.

NDSU has printed media guides since the early 1960s and electronic versions have been available on GoBison.com since the 2003-04 season.
