Markus Gerbrandt scored twice in the third including an empty net goal at 18:54 as Bemidji State defeated Minnesota in the first round of the North Star College Cup.
Minnesota opened up scoring with a goal from Connor Reilly in the first period and held a 1-0 lead going into the second.
With the game tied up at one apiece going into the third Cory Ward was able to give Bemidji the lead just over halfway through the final period of play.

Bemidji State will take on St. Cloud State today in the final game of the North Star College cup.
St. Cloud State 5,
Minnesota State 4: Jimmy Murray scored the game winning goal for St. Cloud State on the power play to advance the Huskies to the championship round of the North Star College Cup.
Minnesota State forward Zach Stepan got Mankato on the board first with a power play goal but St. Cloud was able to answer back with two goal in just over a minute.
Dylan Margonari tied the game at two for Minnesota State with just 29 seconds remaining in the period.
St. Cloud will take on Bemidji State in the final round of the North Star College Cup while Minnesota State will play Minnesota in the consolation game.
Minnesota Duluth 3,
Northern Michigan 1: Minnesota Duluth scored three goals in the first period to secure a road win over Northern Michigan.
Tony Cameranesi opened up scoring at just 1:09 in the first while Parker Mackay added the second goal three minutes later.
Dominic Toninato scored the final Minnesota Duluth goal with just under two minutes remaining in the first period of play.

Darren Nowick scored the lone goal for Northern Michigan in the second period.
Nebraska Omaha 6,
Colorado College 1: Nebraska Omaha received goal from six different skaters as the Mavericks rolled over Colorado College on the road.
The Mavericks found the back of the net twice in the first period with goals from Jordan Klehr and Luc Snuggerud.
Nebraska Omaha didn’t look back from there as they went on to score four more goals in the second period.
Colorado College’s lone goal came off the stick of Hunter Fejes late in the second period.
Wisconsin 5,
Alaska 2: With the game tied at 1-1 Wisconsin was able to pull away from Alaska in the third period of play.
Luke Kunin scored early in the third to give Wisconsin the lead but Austin Vieth was able to tie the game back up at 2-2 just two minutes later.
Jake Linhart, Cameron Hughes and Mathew Freytag would go on to score for Wisconsin to secure the win for the Badgers in the final period of play
