WEST FARGO -- Grand Forks swimmers captured two titles here Saturday on the final day of the North Dakota girls high school swim meet.
Freshman Elsa Musselman won the 200 in a time of 1:53.93. Junior Jordyn Danielson won the 500 in 5:15.20. It was the first state title for both of the Grand Forks Red River swimmers.
“Elsa had a better-than-average performance,’’ Grand Forks coach Bryan Walls said. “She had a lifetime best time in the prelims. She added a little bit of time to that today, but I’m happy with how she swam.
“Jordyn did what we hoped she would do. It wasn’t her best time. But she was super happy with the title. And on finals day, it’s about places, about getting points for your team.’’
Musselman also finished third in the 100 freestyle, while Danielson picked up a sixth in the 200 freestyle.

Musselman set a school record in the prelims in the 200 freestyle. Teammate Liddy Ohe set a school record in the 100 backstroke, swimming a 57.47 to finish second. Ohe also placed sixth in the 50 free.
Red River also had top-three finishes in the 200 freestyle (second) and 400 freestyle (third) relays.
Central’s top placers were Zoie Frattin (fifth, 100 backstroke), Ellie Pulkrabek (sixth, 500 freestyle) and Madeline Elseth (seventh, 200 freestyle).
Bismarck Century won the team title with 400 points. Red River scored 167 to finish sixth, just one point behind West Fargo. Central finished ninth with 122.5 points, just two behind No. 8 Dickinson.
“Sixth was a bit of a letdown for Red River,’’ Walls said. “But I don’t know if we could have squeezed out many more points. With Red River having so few kids, I’m happy with sixth. And Central swam well to get in the top 10.’’
