Bismarck Century had nearly twice as many shots on goal as Minot on Thursday in the consolation semifinals of the North Dakota state boys hockey tournament.
But Magicians freshman goalie Ethan Pardon stole the win from the Patriots.
Pardon, who didn't start in the quarterfinals, finished with 35 saves as Minot beat Century 5-4 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena's Olympic rink.
Minot will play Bismarck High in the fifth-place game today at 9:30 a.m. at the Olympic rink. The Magicians and the Demons split their two games during the regular season.
Minot netted the game-winner at 14 minutes, 47 seconds of the third period when Morgan Martelle scored a power-play goal.

Pardon, playing in his 11th game of the season, stopped 15 shots in the second period and 13 shots in third period.
The Magicians, who scored three power-play goals, received a pair of goals from Josh Colleaux.
Century was led by two goals from Jacob Dehne. Patriots goalie Devon Butz stopped 15 shots.
