ST. PAUL

Randy Moss in purple for a third time?

Not likely.

But at least the free agency class just got a little more exciting, thanks to Moss' declaration on a Ustream.tv video today that he plans to play football in 2012.

The Aug. 1 announcement of his retirement lasted less than seven months.

"I wanna play football," said Moss, who turned 35 today. "Your boys is going to come back here and play some football, so I'm really excited. I had some things I had to adjust in my life."

Moss torched NFL defenses for 954 receptions, 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns over 13 seasons -- including 92 scores during seven-plus years with the Vikings. But a four-game stint with Minnesota in 2010 ended abruptly after sub-par play and criticisms of Vikings coach Brad Childress.

Childress waived Moss on Nov. 1, 2010, without consulting ownership after getting word that Moss privately suggested the team should fire Childress. The Vikings had traded a third-round pick to the Patriots to acquire Moss, hoping the once-dominant receiver would propel Minnesota to a second consecutive NFC title game.

In a 28-18 loss at New England on Oct. 31, Moss conducted a bizarre news conference in which he said he missed playing for the Patriots and questioned the Vikings' strategy in the game.

Moss recorded 13 catches for 174 yards and two touchdowns for the Vikings in 2010. Two years later, Moss sounds rejuvenated.

"Faith, family and football - that's my M.O., bro," Moss said. "Your boy be back for the upcoming season."
