MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-hander Kyle Gibson pitched eight shutout innings, leading the Minnesota Twins to a 1-0 win against the Chicago White Sox at Target Field on Friday.
Gibson allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out four in one of the best performances of his major league career, improving to 2-2 this season.
He outdueled Chicago lefty Jose Quintana, who was good in his own right, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks over seven innings of work.
Twins closer Glen Perkins worked around a pair of hits in the ninth for his seventh save.

The Twins took a 1-0 lead in the fifth after leadoff singles by designated hitter Kennys Vargas and center fielder Shane Robinson. A one-out sacrifice fly moved both runners into scoring position and Vargas scored on a wild pitch by Quintana.
Both teams had chances to get on the board early but couldn't capitalize.
Chicago had the bases loaded with one out in the second, but catcher Tyler Flowers bounced into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Minnesota also had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth, but Quintana got catcher Kurt Suzuki to strike out before left fielder Eduardo Escobar grounded out to short.
Escobar was originally ruled safe, scoring a run, but White Sox manager Robin Ventura challenged the play and it was overturned.
