THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Seth Carlin made sure there wasn't another upset in the Minnesota Section 8A boys basketball tournament.

Carlin scored a game-high 19 points to lead Fosston to a 59-47 win over Goodridge-Grygla in the championship game of the section tournament Friday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The Greyhounds came in as the No. 2 seed from the East Subsection, while Goodridge-Grygla, which made a surprise run in the tournament, came as the No. 5 seed from the West Subsection.

Fosston led 28-11 at halftime behind Carlin's nine points in the first half.

Goodridge-Grygla was paced by Daniel Polansky (12 points) and Preston Swenson (11 points).

Carlin, who had three 3-pointers, entered the game with a 12 points-per-game average. He was joined in double figures by Zach Sather (12) and Bryant Schmidt (11).

The Greyhounds, who are the defending section champion, advance to the Minnesota state tournament. The Class A quarterfinals begin Thursday at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
