MEN'S BASKETBALL: UND made late comeback only to be beaten by Vandals 65-64

MOSCOW, Idaho--UND staged a late comeback but fell short, falling to Idaho 65-64 late Saturday night in a Big Sky Conference men's basketball game at the Cowan Spectrum.

MOSCOW, Idaho-UND staged a late comeback but fell short, falling to Idaho 65-64 late Saturday night in a Big Sky Conference men's basketball game at the Cowan Spectrum.

UND dropped to 7-6 in the Big Sky and 12-12 overall while Idaho improved to 8-5 and 16-10. The Vandals swept the Fighting Hawks in league play this season.

UND trailed 63-58 with 38 seconds to go but still had a chance to win it at the buzzer.

Quinton Hooker's 3-point play left UND trailing 65-64 with second seconds to go. UND fouled Idaho's Chris Sarbaugh with six seconds to go. The Idaho player, however, missed both free throw attempts.

UND's chance for the win, however, failed when Josh Collins' layup at the buzzer was off the mark.

UND was led by Corey Baldwin and Drick Bernstine. Both finished with 15 points. Geno Crandall and Carson Shanks finished with 10 each.

Idaho was led by Nahshon George and Chad Sherwood as each finished with 11.

Idaho outrebounded UND 40-23. And the Hawks were hurt at the foul line as they made 14 of 23.

UND returns home to play Northern Colorado next Saturday.
