The UND men's basketball team's frontcourt has received a boost for next season.
Carson Shanks, a 7-footer from Prior Lake, Minn., will transfer to North Dakota from Utah State, where he redshirted this fall.
Shanks, who announced his plans via his twitter account late Tuesday, will have three and a half years of eligibility remaining when he becomes eligible at semester break next season.
Shanks was originally rumored to be walking-on at Minnesota. However, he attended UND's game against Weber State at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center last Saturday.
He will enroll in classes at UND for the second semester and must sit out athletically for one year, per NCAA rules.

Shanks was a two-time all-conference pick at Prior Lake High School. He averaged 12 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game as a senior.
According to his bio at Utah State, Shanks was the third-ranked prospect in the state of Minnesota out of high school.
Shanks told local media at Utah State that he was transferring to be closer to family and that the two sides parted ways on good terms.
