Local sports briefs: NDSU downs UND in volleyball; Stephen-Argyle falls in Section 8A final

UND, Bison to close out season Saturday night

College volleyball

Bison upend UND: North Dakota State downed North Dakota 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 on Friday night in Summit League volleyball at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

UND dropped to 2-13 in the league and 2-15 overall while the Bison improved to 7-8 and 9-8.

UND redshirt freshman Sofia Hedqvist had 11 kills to lead the Fighting Hawks. Peyton Sewell had three kills in addition to 14 assists while Lexi Ahrens and Alexa Albinson finished with eight and six kills, respectively.

Both teams will close out the season Saturday night at the Betty.

Seniors Taylor Riedl and Sara Antic will be honored as part of the team's Senior Night festivities.

Girls basketball

Stephen-Argyle falls: Cass Lake-Bena downed Stephen-Argyle 65-55 on Friday night to win the Minnesota Section 8A girls basketball title at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.

CLB now advances to the state Class A girls tournament.

Riley Mooney led Stephen-Argyle with 23 points while Grace Carlson added 17.

Taryn Frazer led Cass Lake-Bena with 19 points.

Cass Lake-Bena led 35-25 at the half.
